In today’s super connected world, many parents spend a portion of their time working from home, whether full time or part time. There’s no doubt that your kids will interrupt you despite your best efforts to lay out guidelines. When you are trying to focus and complete work on time, it’s natural to snap at your loved ones when the interruptions repeat themselves.
How do you reduce those interruptions and train the kids to give you more space? Before you start working, be clear about the time blocks when you expect uninterrupted work space. If interrupted, remind them of the next breaking point. Most importantly, when you step away from the work, be 100% focused on the kids. It’s their reward for patiently not bothering you. Over time, your family can be trained to interrupt you less when the time blocks are clear and the non-work time has a payoff for them!
